THE AWARDS*:

The Bales Award was named for Dr. Bruce Bales of Winchester IN, now deceased.  He shared his passion for Jaguars and contributed to the early formation of the club through his enthusiasm and by regularly attending almost all events, often bringing along prospective new members he had recruited, even after he had been diagnosed with a terminal illness.  The trophy is a gold-colored leaper, approximately 12” long, suitable for display on a mantel or in the recipient’s Man Cave.  It is awarded annually to an individual or couple who has contributed to the spirit and comradery of the club through enthusiastic participation and a passion for the marque. Current holder Peter Fischer.

The Halbauer Award was named for Ron and Sonya Halbauer, members of the Area 51 Drivers Club based in Louisville.  Both were instrumental in guiding our charter members through the process of developing appropriate Bylaws and applying for entry to JCNA.  Formerly of Lawrenceburg IN on the Ohio River, Ron died a few years ago after retiring from a long career with P&G out of Cincinnati.  Since they were presented with the first award in 2000, it has been awarded annually to the individual or couple who have contributed their time and efforts to the betterment of the club and by doing so has enhanced the reputation of the club among other clubs and JCNA.  The billet aluminum “brick” is highly polished and substantial in weight. Current holders Jose and Dyana Sanchez.

The Broken Piston award has its genesis when won in a University of Michigan road rally in 1968 by club member Cliff Burk.  Naturally enough, the sectioned, white diesel piston is attached to its base by a connecting rod.  A few years ago club member Rick Oldham saw the need to have an appropriate inscription attached to the base.  The award goes to the club member with the most notable Cat-as-trophy in the preceding year.  The traveling award is presented at the annual banquet to the most deserving nomination from the floor.  Past winners have 1) disassembled a Jaguar and forgotten how to reverse the procedure, 2) encountered a last-minute problem at a concours, or 3) been rear-ended by a spouse after a frame-off restoration enroute to a concours!  Nominations from the floor occasionally have some basis in truth. Current holder Mike Bocchino.
